Tag Heuer holds a prominent place in the industry of watch manufacturers, they have maintained an excellent reputation by providing a wide range of high quality watches to the market. Tag, which is the shortened version of Tag Heuer is the creation of Eduardo Heuer, who lived in Switzerland. He started his watch making company in 1860 with the objective of providing quality timepieces. The name Tag Heuer combines an abbreviation for Techniques d'Avant Garde (the company that purchased heuer in 1985) and the surname Heuer.
In the beginning the main focus of Heuer was to develop a set of timepieces which could be used to provide precise timing in sports, cars and aircraft. Timing was a vital part in sports and his creations helped address this issue. TAG Heuer has been the official timekeeper of the three Summer Olympic Games of the 1920s, the Skiing World Championships, the Formula One World Championships and has developed a watch for the McLaren F1 team.
Eduardo Heuer’s greatest achievement came in the year of 1916, where he was able to create a micrograph stopwatch. This stopwatch impressed the people because it had an accuracy of 1/100th of a second. At the moment, they have gone through a huge technological revolution and develop watches that have a very high accuracy of 1/10,000th of a second.
One of the most recognized watches by Hauer is the Carrera which was introduced in the mid 1960’s it was also one of the first automatic chronographs with a Cal 11 and Cal 12 movements (12-hour chronograph); Cal 14 movement (12-hour chronograph and additional hand for GMT / second time-zone) and the Cal 15 movement (30-minute chronograph). The winding crown was on the left, with the pushers for the chronograph on the right.
In the mid 70’s the Chronosplit, a digital chronograph with dual LED and LCD displays. Later versions featured two LCD displays so their innovations have always been an important factor in their product range.
